NMR Laboratory
Department of Chemistry, Masaryk University BRNO

General Information

The group's primary interest is focused to structural and conformational studies of DNA and RNA oligonucleotides in solution as well as to development of new experimental techniques of multidimensional NMR spectroscopy. In cooperation with Laboratory of Computational Chemistry and Supercomputing Centre Brno computational aspects of three-dimensional biomolecular structure determination are studied.

Equipment Available

  • 600 MHz NMR spectrometer Bruker AVANCE for high-resolution spectroscopy in liquids. The spectrometer is equipped with four radiofrequency channels. Two 5 mm probes are available, namely a triple resonance TXI (1H, 13C, 15N) and quadruple resonance QXI (1H, 13C, 15N, 31P), both with z-gradients. The spectrometer is capable of performing the most sophisticated experiments in biomolecular NMR with high resolution and sensitivity. The magnet is ultrashielded, which greatly reduces deleterious effects of external magnetic fields.

  • 500 MHz NMR spectrometer Bruker AVANCE DRX for multiple-resonance studies of biomolecules with three radiofrequency channels, two biomolecular probeheads (1H{13C/BB} and 1H{13C/15N/31P}) for applications of triple and quadruple-resonance experiments with magnetic field gradients, 1H selective probehead (z-gradient), triple-resonance probehead [1H, 13C, 15N + z-gradient] and other probeheads (5mm-QNP, 10mm-BBO a 10 mm-BB,19F,31P)

  • 300 MHz NMR spectrometer Bruker AVANCE for double-resonance studies of natural products, organic and inorganic molecules, two radiofrequency channels, two probes
    (BBI [1H{BB} + z-grad] a QNP [13C/19F/31P{1H}] + z-grad)

Hardware & Software

Two SGI INDY machines (IRIX 5.3, IRIX 5.2) with total disk capacity almost 4GB (2GB reserved for spectra storage) equipped with Bruker software XWINNMR, Aurelia, NMRSim. Two PCs running DOS with Windows versions of Bruker software (WINNMR, NMRSim). Access to Supercomputing Centre and LCC.
